Getting Started with Raising Money for your Church

Churches need money for heating, plumbing, electricity, upkeep of the church and the grounds etc.  One solution is to have a fundraiser. When you talk about setting up a fundraiser for your church it can seem daunting and it can be, but there are some great things about it.

You have a great resource in the community and the members of the church.  That is a lot of man or women power that you can call upon to help with the fundraising and volunteer.  A lot of them will be willing to volunteer, in order to, help out their church.  That can be a really big deal.

Think about all of the possibilities.  You don't have to run the whole fundraising show yourself.  You might have never been involved with fundraising before or at least not run a fundraising event before.  I'm sure that members have either experience with running fundraising events or at least being involved with them.  Another positive that you have is that people are used to volunteering for the church.  There are a lot of people to work with in your church.

You don't have to have this huge fundraiser.  You can have small things like a bake sale.  You can bake it all yourself or you can get a few people from your church to bake a few things and contribute.

Now, if you don't want to run a fundraiser for your church, don't worry.  There are plenty of ways that you can get involved with fundraisers for your church.  Sure, you can always donate money, but there are a lot more ways that you can contribute to fundraising for your church.  Just find ways to volunteer and get involved.  You can always ask around to see how you can get involved.

A lot of times there are bulletin boards in your church where they post events where you can volunteer.  You should also ask around about different ways that you can get involved in fundraising for your church.

When people think about networking, they think about business, but you can network for your church, as well.  You may find ways to connect with other churches, in a joint event to raise money.  You may be able to network with other churches in your area and come up with a fundraiser venture.

I touched on running a bake sale earlier, you can also contribute to it, instead of running it.  My church has bake sales where they will ask members to make cookies or bars and they will sell them.  Once in awhile they will have a pot luck supper where members will each bring some food.

One church we heard of even has a meatball supper once a year.  It's a small church, so it doesn't take a lot of money to run it, but that one event goes a long way to support the church.  They make all the food, charge for it and open it up to the public and people come from miles around.

Brick Fundraising

Whether it's a building or the furnishing that you're raising money for - people like knowing what their money has contributed towards.

Hence, asking people to "buy" a brick, chair or a Bible, can help them to have a real sense of ownership of your project and allow them to feel involved with what's going on.

Raising Money for a Building Project or Towards Ongoing Repairs & Maintenance

I’m sure that everybody thinks buildings are very safe, however the fact is that they won’t last forever. Buildings need continual maintenance in order to stay in tip top condition, just think how much time and money you have spent maintaining your home.

This can make it very difficult if you have a nonprofit organization, charity or church with a building which needs urgent repairs.

If you have a building that needs repair then you should take time learning about fundraising opportunities to help you raise money. There are actually a number of different ways that you can use to raise money for your building project.

This article looks at the basics of setting up any fundraising program; you will need to study these points carefully so that you can earn as much money as possible for your building repair project. In large nonprofit organizations you might have a separate department for each area, however it is important to understand the role of each area even if you are the only person masterminding the fundraising activities. When raising money for a building project it is important to try and think about everything concerned.

When starting to decide what you want to do to raise money for your building project you should already be asking yourself some of the more obvious questions. It’s an important step to think about these questions and find answers to them so that you are on the right track from the start.

There are also a number of technical issues that you might come up against; you might have to seek specialist advice to resolve these issues.  You will need to apply for non-profit exemption so that you do not have to pay tax on the money that you raise. If you can apply for this tax exemption then you will need to fill in loads of forms, and also keep meticulous records to make sure that everything is recorded.4

Depending on the size and complexity of your fundraising efforts it might be quite an easy project, or it might be extremely complex and require many people to help you achieve your goals. When you find a way to make money make sure that you put it to use and repair your building so that it lasts for a long time to come! Raising money for your building repair project can be very rewarding, but it can also be extremely stressful!
